Chail Wildlife Sanctuary


Chail Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Himachal Pradesh state of Solan valley and is surrounded by Deodar and Oak woods. Barking deer and kalijin are the sanctuary’s main draws, spread out over a vast region of 10,854.36 hectares. The sanctuary was founded in 1976.

Most of the Chail Wildlife Sanctuary animals are mammals, including rhesus macaques, leopards, Indian Muntjacs (Barking Deer), and goral crested porcupines. The Himalayan black bear, wild boar, common langur, sambar, and other wildlife can also be found at the Chail sanctuary in Himachal. This Himachal Pradesh wildlife reserve offers trekking opportunities to make the journey more exciting and adventurous. The Chail Sanctuary also features a breeding farm for chir pheasants.

Rare orchids and a number of wildlife species on the verge of extinction also call it home. The Himalayan Black Bear, Wild Boar, and Common Langur are among the large mammals that can be found here, in addition to the Rhesus Macaque, Leopard, Indian Muntjac, Goral, and Crested Porcupine. The Chir Pheasant Breeding and Rehabilitation Center, established in 1988 near Bossom and Jhajja, must also be seen by visitors to this location.

Important Wildlife Attractions: The sanctuary is home to a number of creatures and birds that are at risk of extinction. Common Langurs, Leopards, Indian Porcupines, Sambars, Gorals, Common Giants, Kashmiri Flying Squirrels, Pheasants, Rhesus Macaques, Himalayan Black Bears, Red Deer, Indian Hares, Yellow-Throated Martens, Silver-White Oaks, and Barking Deer are just a few of the animals that can be seen among them.

Other Wildlife Attractions: Chail Wildlife SanctuaryThis sanctuary is a wildlife lover’s paradise, but there aren’t many ways to enjoy it there. While on vacation at Chail Sanctuary, you can engage in activities like hiking, fishing, and bird watching.
Trekking:

Trekking is one of the greatest ways to take a wildlife tour at Chail Sanctuary. It is impossible to go on a jeep safari in the park due to the rugged terrain. This park offers a variety of high-altitude trekking paths for those who want to explore it while engaging in an adventure sport like trekking. Kandaghat-Chail, Chail-Rajgarh, Chur Chandini, and Chail-Shimla via Junga are the trekking routes.

Angler: Anglers can enjoy their sport here in the Gaura River. Mahseer fish abound in this river.

Birding:

This sanctuary supports birdwatching. There are locations where you may simply wander and observe some of the rarest bird species. The Chir Pheasant breeding facility is one of the sanctuary’s key draws. In 1988, the Chir Pheasant breeding and rehabilitation program was launched.

Best Period to Visit: From March to October is the ideal period to visit Chail Wildlife Sanctuary.


Getting there:

Air: The closest airport is Shimla.

Rail: You can take the toy train to go to this lovely location on the Kalka-Shimla route. From Kalka, it takes five hours. You will go over the most densely forested rails, breathtaking bends, steep ravines, and never-ending tunnels on a toy train with a maximum of half 5–6 bogies.

Road: The Kalka-Shimla route makes it easy to reach this Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is well-connected by road to all the locations nearby and is about 40 km from Shimla.
